Les Arcs

One of Europe's biggest and best lift-linked ski areas

Les Arcs' vast ski reserve combines a great snow record with sumptuous north facing snow fields. The impressive Vanoise Express cable car provides easy access to a further 225km of pistes in neighboring La Plagne. Choose between three villages; Arc 1800 has an activity area comprising of aquatic centre, toboggan runs, fun trail, beginner's area and children's practice area, adding to its popularity with families and beginners. Arc 1950 is a pretty car free village with excellent restaurants, bars, shops and a spa, plus good access to the slopes. Intermediate and advanced skiers are attracted to Arc 2000 with its proximity to the Aiguille Rouge Glacier and fantastic doorstep skiing.

Ski and Snowboard Information

Beginners skiing and snowboarding

The gentler slopes of Arc 1800, which offers a great choice of long, wide blues, are a superb place to head for beginner skiers and boarders. Beginners are also well served in Arcs 2000 and 1950. The wide nursery slope under the St Jacques chairlift is easily accessible and an ideal place to learn.

The St Jacques chairlift takes you to the top of a delightful blue run, the Bas KL. The wide, gentle slope is ideal for practicing your turns, whether you’re a skier or boarder. More confident beginners will enjoy the tree lined Vallée de L’Arc, and the blue pistes from the top of the Col de la Chal.

Intermediates skiing and snowboarding

Les Arcs, and the Paradiski area as a whole is ideal for intermediate skiers. The resort is both diverse and accessible, providing a mixture of routes that are easily explored. There is no reason why an intermediate skier or boarder cannot, comfortably visit every part of the mountain.

Particularly fine is the tree lined skiing. We highly recommend heading to the top of the Grizzly 68 chair where a network of red and blue runs criss-cross the woods back to Vallandry and Peisey.

You can easily cruise to Villaroger through the woods along the Vallée de L’Arc blue. Alternatively, follow the Aiguille Rouge red from the top of the Lanchettes chairlift, along the ridge of the mountain before dropping into the trees. An easier section of one of the most challenging runs in resort.

Heading up above Arcs 2000 to the top of the Varet and the Arcabulle lifts opens a wealth of wide, cruising red runs and open blue pistes. Here, the snow remains in good condition until late into the ski season. If you start to tire of Les Arcs, your Discovery lift pass will provide you with a day’s access to La Plagne as well – an intermediate’s paradise!

Advanced skiing and snowboarding

Expert skiers and boarders will love Les Arcs. The mountain provides incredible challenges both on and off the piste, making it a first class destination for advanced skiers. Arc 2000 offers the most black runs: the Robert Blanc, the Génépi and the Refuge, to name a few.

The ungroomed Natur’ runs are an incredible draw. Three of these massive mogul fields descend from the top of the Varet lift. The pistes are wide, but incredibly steep and bumpy. Enjoy the spectacular views from the top – because you won’t have time on the way down!

The steep run from the top of the Aiguille Rogue all the way to Villaroger is infamous. The narrow and often crowded start to the run takes you along a lengthy and varied route covering different types of terrain and descending 2000m across 7km.

The Flying Kilometre offers a terrifying challenge to all but the most hardened speed freaks. A steep, icy descent, pro-riders have been known to travel the length of this chute at speeds of 200kmph. If you’re up for it, you too can challenge the pros on supervised time trials.

Freestyle and terrain parks

Les Arcs is an excellent destination for freestyle enthusiasts. The excellent boardercross, which you can access from the top of the Col de la Chal, provides hours of entertainment, even if you are a freestyle novice. Why not challenge a friend to a one-on-one race down the mountain?

Mille8 in Arc 1800 has its very own boardercross too, Les Bosses. Use your lift pass to register at the top of the course and cameras will film your descent so you can share your amazing freestyle skills online. At night the atmosphere is extra special as multi-coloured LED lights provide illumination to the course.

Near the base of the Arpette’s chairlift are a couple of freestyle facilities including the Apocalypse snow park. This freestyle park is served by its own ski lift and offers a range of jumps and rails suitable for a mix of abilities.

The nearby Big Air Bag, is perfect for those that want to try their hand at big-style jumps and tricks with a guaranteed soft landing. And during the spring months the neighbouring waterslide provides hours of entertainment as ambitious skiers and boarders attempt to ski across a short pond. Prepare for a big splash!
